The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis (the “University”) is providing you with this notice to explain how it uses the personal data we collect from you when you interact with the University.
What Data Does the University Collect?
The following provides examples of how the University collects your personal data, the types of personal data we collect, and the lawful reasons or primary purposes for which the information is used.
Websites and Mobile Applications
When you use one of our websites or mobile applications, we automatically collect your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and click stream data. Additionally, we collect the personal data you provide when completing various forms on our web site. Examples of the types of personal data we collect include contact information (name, addresses, phone number, social media). Some of this data is obtained when you consent to accept “Cookies.” Cookies are small packets of information used to track your activity across our website and to help our website operate more efficiently.

Your personal data collected on our website and mobile applications is used by us or vendors providing services on our behalf for the primary purposes of communicating with you regarding our academic programs, employment opportunities, events, activities, and services, evaluating your level of interest and engagement with us, customizing future messaging, identifying general trends, and improving our websites and applications.
Student Applications
When you apply for admission to the University’s educational programs, you may be asked to provide contact information, demographic information, educational history, test scores, reference letters, personal statements, and other information necessary to process your application.
What is the Purpose of Processing?
The information contained in the student application is used to evaluate your candidacy for admission to our academic programs.
Enrollment Data
Once you are admitted, the University collects the same information contained in the student application along with immunization history and financial information via the FAFSA.
What is the Purpose of Processing?
The University uses your personal data upon enrollment to register you as a student in courses; administer University financial aid and awards; plan, deliver, and manage educational programs, academic support services; student activities, use of facilities (e.g. parking, room and board plans). This information may be shared with University faculty, staff, administrators, and third-party vendors supporting the University’s operations or offering products or services to the University’s students.
Employment Information
If you complete an application for employment at the University, we collect personal data such as contact information, work history, education, criminal background, and references. When an applicant is hired, we collect personal information including social security number, dependent family members, health and medical information, and proof of visa or work authorization.
What is the Primary Purpose for Processing?
We use information about applicants to determine their qualifications and make decisions about progression through our hiring process and, ultimately, extending a job offer. Once an applicant is hired, we use personal data for the primary purposes of administering payroll, employee benefit plans, security, and on-going employment relationship and complete reports required by government agencies.
Email Activity
When using email to communicate with us, we collect data about the status of the emails we send you and record information when you click on links or banners or make purchases.
Primary Purpose for Processing
The personal data that is collected regarding our email communications and activity enhances our ability to communicate with you and facilitate offering goods and services.
Health and Medical
We may collect health information about you relating to your medical or health conditions, care and treatment, and physical or mental abilities.
Primary Purpose for Processing
Health information is used by the University to administer its medical plan, to evaluate and provide accommodations in the workplace or classroom settings, to deliver counseling or wellness services, to coordinate or provide emergency care, and administer attendance policies.
Sharing Your Data
The University may also collect and disclose personal data in the following situations:
- Consent. We may ask for your permission to share your information with persons or organizations other than the University for the specific purposes stated in the request.
- Disclosures Without Consent. In order to comply with laws, legal process, requirements of government agencies, or protect the University’s legal interests, and respond to emergencies.
- Public. General information about students contained in a University directory is publicly available. This includes your name, year, and email address.
- Service Providers. We may share your information with vendors or other organizations that help the University to run its operations and deliver services. The University seeks assurances from outside parties to protect your personal information and limit access to the extent necessary to provide and manage the services.
Your Rights
Under the University’s privacy policy, you have the right to:
- Request access to, inspect, and correct your personal information
- If you are a resident of a European Union country, you generally have the right, with some exceptions, to erase your personal information
- Request restriction of processing or object to processing your personal information
- Request a copy of your personal information
- Withdraw your consent to processing your personal information
- Residents of a country in the European Union and Brazil have the right to lodge a complaint with the appropriate supervisory authority
- All students who matriculate to the University have privacy rights as provided under the Family and Educational Rights to Privacy Act commonly referred to as FERPA. A copy of the University’s FERPA policy can be found here.
Retention of Personal Data
The University retains your data as required in the University’s Record Retention Policy and state and federal laws. If you request erasure of your personal information, the University will destroy the information unless it must be retained to comply with applicable laws or fulfill its contractual obligations to you. Erasing information may adversely affect the University’s ability to continue to provide goods and services.
Data Protection/Data Breach
The University has implemented a data security and protection program to safeguard your personal information. However, we cannot guarantee that your personal information is safe from exposure through criminal or other malicious activity. The University will notify you of any exposure of your personal information as required by law.
Reservation of Rights to Change Privacy Notice
The University reserves the right to change its privacy policy and practices at any time.
